The backbone of our success is our staff – Our Service Management Team collectively offer in excess of 100 years’ experience in the forklift service business, and their experience and technical know-how ensures that FTD will continue to lead the way for years to come.
Our field service engineers are carefully chosen for technical ability, experience and communicative skills. This, together with complete product training, ensures the very best service is provided.
We place the upmost importance in the levels of service we give to our customers on a daily basis – responding to all service calls within an average of less than 3 hours.
Forklift servicing is usually carried out on an annual basis, but earlier checks may be needed depending on your application. Checks should be completed daily to ensure that the forklift is safe and continues working to a high standard.
At Fork Truck Direct we have a team of highly trained field service engineers who will carry out a thorough inspection and service of your forklift. To find out exactly what is included within our service please contact our service department on 01245 322252.
Manufacturer’s recommendations
The forklift’s manufacturer usually states when a service is required. Just like a car, all aspects of the forklift need to be fully serviced, including engine and hydraulics. It’s always best to take guidance from the forklift manufacturer and book your forklift service accordingly. This will help to ensure it runs safely and smoothly.
Hours in service
Another component that effects when a service is due is the total hours of operation. Increased hours of use increase the rate of wear and tear and this obviously increases the speed at which tyres, forks and parts need to be repaired or replaced. Again, you should check the manufacturer’s recommendations for guidance on hours of use per service required, and if your forklift is approaching that number of hours then book it in for a service with us.
How old and in what condition
The age and condition of the forklift also have to be taken into consideration. The general rule is the older the forklift, the more frequently it will need checking and servicing. They are a valuable asset, and as such they need to be looked after with regular servicing. If you wish to sell your forklift in the future, then it’s advantageous to have regular services, as you’ll be able to provide a full service history.
The working environment
The nature of the work that is involved, plus the working environment, impact greatly on when your forklift should be serviced. If the forklift is operated continuously outdoors on uneven terrain, then the odds are that the brakes, tyres and steering components will wear more quickly than a forklift which is operated indoors. This type of forklift will need to be serviced more often to keep it working safely and efficiently.
At Fork Truck Direct, all records of service work carried out are stored electronically on our unique Service Management System. Our customers are given a unique username and password to access the SMS which allows them to view all of the service and job history for each forklift they have, giving complete transparency of everything we do!
With Health & Safety and compliance becoming ever more important in all business sectors, this system is the perfect way to provide all the data and support information necessary, at the click of a button.
Using the system it is also very simple to produce reports that analyse a variety of aspects regarding your forklift fleet including cost analysis, down time analysis and much more. With this statistical data available, it has never been easier to control and manage your fleet and optimise its performance.
